UK Police ‘Arrive At Man’s House To Arrest Him Over Xbox 360 Gamertag’
A viral post is doing the rounds with a claim that UK police tried to arrest a man over his X username and old Xbox gamertag because it was offensive and racist against Asians.
The man’s username was ‘ChingChongChinaman’ – and the police promptly dropped the case when they realised he was Asian…
Incredible. Now look, all we have to go off here is this guy on Reddit posting on the r/LegalAdvice sub because he doesn’t know what the hell’s going on. However, the post does seem sincere enough, and it wouldn’t be the most shocking thing in the world given the sort of things that British police waste time investigating these days.
Let’s say it’s legit – what would have been the outcome for a non-Chinese person using that gamertag? Surely the UK justice system wouldn’t punish a man for a mildly offensive Xbox gamer tag he made when he was 13, would they?

And how about the person who reported his username to the police? Probably someone he spanked on FIFA or disagreed with politically on X. Just goes to show – if you’re going to be racist or offensive online, just make sure it’s at the expense of your own race and you’re good to go.
