It was only a matter of time before the ‘Twice Baked EP’ was realised. Both Jamie from Tomb Crew and vociferous mic controller Ilaman’s insatiable love for the golden generation of mid-nineties boom bap was sure to shine through at some point.

‘Twice Baked EP’ delivers three slabs of raw and unadulterated 140bpm edits of hip hop tracks from the past. This is chopped and screwed on speed, keeping the energy and distinct sound of the original recordings.

These tracks are not supposed to sound clean or modern, they are not supposed to be compressed within an inch of their life in an attempt to win the loudness war. They are the sound of a past generation – with a simple cut and paste style tempo twist.

They come from a time when you sat up waiting for Westwood to play “that” track so you record it to cassette and bring to school the next day. A time when you sat on the bus engrossed in the sleeve notes to ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx’ wishing you could own a pair of Wallabees whilst marvelling at the now infamous purple cassette.

Opening track and Mobb Deep sampling ‘Warning’ is a moody affair whilst ‘Kicking Doors’ featuring RUBI DAN and ILLAMAN represents that real boom bap sound that DJ Premier became famous for. ‘4th Chamber’ rounds off the EP with PROBLEM CHILD kung fu kicking their way through GZA inspired beat.

Watch the video to ‘Warning’ and look out for the ‘4th Chamber’ video to drop in the new year.
