It’s fascinating to watch how the Saudis do business these days. They’re happy to pay Western musicians millions of dollars to perform in Saudi Arabia, but then won’t let them do the things that they’re best known for. They literally just want to be able to say that “this venue hosted X and Y big name celebrity.”
The latest example of this is Iggy Azalea, who took to Instagram to reveal she was forced to stop her concert in Saudi Arabia the other night after her pants split on stage, revealing a little bit of thigh. Oh the humanity!
Saudi Arabia… Wasssssss…. probably the worst possible place to have my pants split & unfortunately I wasn’t permitted to end the show.
BUT silver lining. The promoters were amazingly kind to me & the PEOPLE who came were the absolute most supportive.
In a separate message on X (or Twitter or whatever it’s called), Iggy hinted that there may have been something else that led to her gig being shut down, revealing that she shouted at the crowd at one point, “’Ladies make some noise, it’s a woman’s world!’”
Very haram!
Many people online seem to be scolding Iggy Azalea for accepting a paycheque from a notoriously intolerant, sexist and racist state, but I’m sure most of these people would feel differently if they were being offered tens of millions to do half an hour on stage before being dragged off for violating a religious law. Easiest payday of her life!
If their money’s good enough for FIFA, the WWE, and Lindsay Lohan, it’s good enough for Iggy!
