Listen I had never heard of Lil Durk before this story popped up either. But apparently he’s one of the top 10 most streamed rappers of 2022 with over 3 BILLION streams.

He’s also a member of the notorious Black Disciples street gang, which means he may or may not be involved in nefarious activities outside of rap. Like say a 2019 shooting in Atlanta which police were certain he and fellow BD member King Von were involved in (via the Atlanta Journal):

The shooting was captured on surveillance cameras from both the Varsity and the cigar bar, according to investigators. The victim was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center for surgery after the bullet struck his femoral artery, police said in the report.

Investigators discovered 13 shell casings from a pistol and a rifle in the parking lot. A 9mm handgun was also recovered. Witnesses interviewed at the scene told police the victim appeared to be in a verbal dispute with another man before shots rang out.

An Atlanta police detective later testified that surveillance footage captured Lil Durk firing a weapon from a vehicle near the restaurant’s parking lot.

Durk faced 5 separate charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. They literally had him on CCTV shooting a gun from his car! You’d think that’s guaranteed prison time and a lengthy sentence at that, right?

Well, apparently not, because a lawyer named Nicole Moorman (above) managed to get him off the hook… on all 5 charges! In an official statement from Fulton County District Attorney, Fani Willis earlier this week, it was declared that:

“The facts of this case have been reviewed and, although it appears that probable cause existed for the defendant’s arrest, the decision of the District Attorney at this time is NOT TO PROSECUTE the above-named defendant(s) for charges arising… The reasons for this decision are as follows: Prosecutorial Discretion.”

I’m not sure what that means exactly or what sort of magic Nicole Moorman pulled to make it happen, but she’s going viral all over Black Twitter right now for saving the bacon of one of the most popular rappers in the game right now. According to her bio on Georgia Association for Women Lawyers in Atlanta, she worked for a firm called Arora & LaScala until recently opening her own practice where she specialises in criminal defence. Got a feeling a lot of rappers/gangsters out there will be asking for her business card after this. Go Nicole Go!

Maybe Kanye can give her a shout if it doesn’t work out with Camille Vasquez.
