‘Peaky Blinders’ and “Happy Valley’ are undoubtedly two of the most successful British TV shows of recent times, so it’s hardly that surprising that the people involved with each one would team up to make an even better show. Or at least try to.

Only problem is that the show sounds like it’s going to be a bit lame as it’s going to be based around the life of William Shakespeare. Is that really going to be that interesting? Here’s the synopsis:

For the first time on television, the drama will tell the complete and thrilling story of the glove-maker’s son who became the greatest storyteller in history. And how one man’s genius survived and thrived in an age of turmoil and terror, danger and disease.

This is the first full account of the passion, people and politics that made William Shakespeare the world’s most famous dramatist and the men and women around him who loved and laboured, schemed and plotted, killed and connived in one of the most dangerous and exciting periods in history.

I guess that does make it sound like it could be sort of exciting, but it still sounds as if ‘Peaky Blinders’  Steven Knight could have picked a cooler period of history to write about. Nevertheless, this seems like a bit of a passion project for the guy so maybe he’s gonna put everything into it.

Here’s what he had to say about it:

I’m excited to be embarking on what will be a landmark TV production telling the dramatic story of the world’s most accomplished writer.

It’s a period I love and the team that has been put together is extraordinary.

It’s a story that begins in the West Midlands and is close to my heart.

Yeah I still can’t get that excited right now but maybe I’ll eat my words next summer/winter when it sees the light of day. Sarah Lancashire – Catherine Cawood from ‘Happy Valley’ – is attached to star in the project too which also seems kinda odd as you would assume that they would be casting William Shakespeare first as the whole series revolves around him, but I guess you have to trust these guys to actually know what they’re doing. Watch out for it.

For more of the same, check out Jason Statham talking about his regrets over losing the role of Tommy Shelby. Think he’s probably the only person in the world who agree with that.
