Considering the global reaction to Netflix’s ‘Tiger King’, I don’t think there was ever any question that there was going to be some kind of television adapatation or movie made about it, but the big question as going to be just who was going get the golden ticket of playing Joe Exotic?

A lot of people were hoping for David Spade, but it’s today been announced that Nicolas Cage will be taking on the role in a new eight part special for CBS Studios. He’ll also executive produce and Dan Lagana – who created the excellent ‘American Vandal’ on Netflix – has been recruited as the showrunner.

The studio actually optioned the series over a year ago after a Texas Monthly article by Leif Reigstad entitled ‘Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild’. Bet he’s sitting on a pretty penny right now.

It’s important to note that this project is separate to the Kate McKinnon one where she’s setting herself put to play Carole Baskin. They’re apparently looking for a writer right now, but to be honest I doubt anyone’s gonna watch it if the Nicolas Cage version comes out first, so they might as well give up now. Seriously.

For more of the same, check out Carole Baskin’s first interview since ‘Tiger King’. Not exactly what she thought.
