Sam Smith gave us the most cringe moment of 2023 thus far when they appeared on the One Show last month and said they wanted to retire as a fisher-them one day. Here’s a reminder:

Since then, Ricky Gervais, Piers Morgan, Katie Hopkins and Noel Gallagher have all had a pop at the non-binary star and now this week Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios has pretty much echoed their sentiments by captioning the clip as ‘so cringe’ and ‘the worst thing I’ve ever heard’:

Which is pretty tame compared to what everyone else had to say about it, but pretty much sums it all up. Still, given Kyrgios is the undisputed bad boy of tennis with plenty of ‘offensive’ quotes in his back catalogue, Sam Smith should probably feel grateful they didn’t get it worse on this occasion.

Then again, Kyrgios is probably watching his Ps and Qs given he’s already being sued by the tennis fan he accused of having ‘700 drinks’ at Wimbledon. Classic.
