All the hype at the moment is around the ‘Game Of Thrones’ prequel show – which is apparently better than ‘Breaking Bad’ – but spare a moment for this ‘Game Of Thrones’ style show that’s going to be set in feudal Japan and feature loads of Samurai action.

‘Shogun’ is based on the 1975 James Clavell novel of the same name and will follow the fortunes of a risk taking Englishman who washes up on the shores of Japan after a shipwreck, a woman with dishonourable ties trying to prove her allegiances and a powerful daimyo who is at odds with his political rivals. Can’t wait to see how all their fates end up intertwined!

Anyway, here’s what FX Chairman John Landgraf said about it:

The story of Shogun has captivated audiences since James Clavell first released his epic novel more than 40 years ago.

The themes of an outsider encountering a new culture are as relevant today as then.

I suppose they are! The show is written by Justin Marks – responsible for the recent mega movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ – and directed by legendary HBO director Tim Van Patten (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire) so it sounds as though it’s going to be well worth tuning in.

Sadly there’s no release date for ‘Shogun’ yet but it’s thought that it will probably end up being show on Disney+/Hulu  sometime in 2023. Remember where you heard about it first.

For more of the same, check out the trailer to ‘House Of Dragon’. That should keep us going at least a little bit.
