With the way the last season of Game of Thrones ended, it’s understandable that we approach House of the Dragon with some hesitancy before it drops on August 21st. Well apparently we’ve got nothing to worry about, because HBO hosted a preview screening of its pilot episode for the media and initial reviews couldn’t be better.

Collider’s editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub said “I did not like the last season of Game of Thrones. At all. But I’ll admit the series premiere of House of the Dragon is really well done and I’ll continue watching,” while Indiewire called it “better than GoT & Breaking Bad.” High praise indeed!

As far as I can tell, these media folk have only seen the pilot episode, so it’s probably a little bit insane to call a show ‘better than Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad’ based on one hour-long episode. I mean how the hell are you going to compare one episode of a series to Breaking Bad?! Breaking Bad! Arguably the greatest TV show in history. I get that bloggers and journalists hyperbolise and clickbait 90% of the time these days, but come on!

Of course, it’s easy to get hooked on a show off one brilliant pilot episode. That’s what happened with the original Game of Thrones that had everyone by the balls from the beginning. But you never heard anyone say “Yup! Better than The Sopranos!” after watching the GoT pilot, did you? Well anyway, hopefully every episode of House of the Dragon will leave us immediately wanting more, like it did with these journos. Just 3 weeks left to go! Can’t wait.
