Matt Hancock’s ‘Pandemic Diaries’ Book Has Officially Flopped

I’m not sure if Matt Hancock appeared on ‘I’m A Celebrtiy To Get Out Of Here’ solely to try and drive sales towards his book ‘Pandemic Diaries’, but I’m fairly certain that at least some of the idea behind his participation was designed for this purpose.

Unfortunately for Hancock though, this doesn’t seem to have worked at all. Despite coming third on the celebrity jungle programme, his book – written with the help of political journalist Isabel Oakeshott and released on December 6th – entered the Nielsen book chart at position 191 after selling 3304 copies in the first week. That doesn’t sound too bad I suppose, but when you couple it with the fact that it only sold a measly 600 copies the day after and dropped out of the top 1000 completely, then you can only really look at the venture as an abject failure.

Despite the public’s general hatred of Hancock, I genuinely thought that a few people might have been interested in the attempted justification of his decisions during the Coronavirus pandemic and that – coupled with his ‘popularity’ in the celebrity jungle and a fairly strenuous press campaign – might have led to the book winding up in the stockings of a whole bunch of people in this country come Christmas time. It was surely released on December 6th with that in mind, right?

Sadly though it looks as though the book was a complete and utter disaster and probably hasn’t even covered the costs of everyone involved in producing it. I suppose that shouldn’t really be that surprising though given Matt Hancock’s political career/career. So it goes.

I’m sure the guy won’t mind too much though as apparently he’s being lined up for an appearance on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pretty soon. God help us.
