In news that I’m not sure the music industry will ever recover from, Lizzo has announced that she is quitting the game due to being incessantly bullied and dragged by haters in everyday life and on the internet.

Personally I’m shocked that someone accused of making her employees shove bananas up their vaginas would ever cry out that she’s a victim of bullying herself, but here’s the announcement Lizzo made on Instagram earlier:

A dark day for the music industry, indeed. Like most celebrities, Lizzo always had to deal with haters and trolls on the internet; that’s just a part of being famous in the modern day. But following the accusations of sexual harassment, assault, fat-shaming and bullying, the anti-Lizzo sentiment online multiplied x a million.

After all, Lizzo is meant to be an American symbol of body positivity, self-acceptance and love in a world that tells bigger girls they’re not good enough. So to find herself in a bullying scandal that completely contradicts her public persona is the last thing her PR team need to deal with.

Just last week, Lizzo performed at a multi-million dollar fundraiser for President Joe Biden, and the whole thing was immediately criticised by the attorney representing her former backup dancers in the lawsuit against Lizzo. He said:

“It’s shameful that Lizzo would be chosen to headline an event like this amid such egregious allegations. Without getting into the politics, I can’t imagine why anyone would want Lizzo representing them in any way, given her reprehensible behavior. It’s just a terrible look.”

And so, Lizzo has decided to call it a day on her music career. Although I wouldn’t be shocked if she’s just trying to lay low until the allegations and lawsuits go away, which would probably be a smart move on her part.

I think she’s probably right that she got a disproportionate amount of hate even pre-allegations, and we can all guess why that is. But you can’t be painting yourself as a victim when so many people who have worked with you say that you’re a toxic @rsehole, a bully and a terrible employer.

For the time Diddy was accused of being ‘fatphobic’ because he didn’t want Lizzo twerking on his livestream, click HERE.
