An audience at a comedy show at Edinburgh Fringe have been denounced as TERFs and accused of a ‘hate crime’ for failing to laugh during a set called Peak Trans, which features trans comedian Jen Ives telling jokes on stage.

You can watch the 5-minute set below – what do you think? Funny or nah?

Well I don’t think that was too bad, aside from the weird Captain Tom stuff at the end. Think I even heard a few chuckles here and there? Ultimately though it wasn’t the kind of reception you would want as a comedian, and apparently this can only be because the audience members were transphobic.

According to reports from the show, there was a section of the crowd sat with their arms crossed, outright refusing to laugh.

Well, I don’t know that we can conclusively say that the reason the audience wasn’t feeling Jen’s routine was because she is transgender, but either way; she’s not the first comedian to bomb at Edinburgh Fringe and certainly won’t be the last. How about coming up with some unbelievably funny jokes next time and forcing that row of haters to crack up despite themselves? That would be the mark of a true comedian indeed.

Recently, Frankie Boyle found himself in hot water for joking about raping and killing Holly Willoughby. Did anyone laugh at that?
