It’s hard to know what a ‘hate crime’ is these days. Is it a hate crime/criminal offence to refer to trans woman India Willoughby as a man? Well, if so, I guess JK Rowling is guilty as charged after misgendering Willoughby into oblivion this week.

It all started with yet another Twitter spat over whether trans women should be allowed into women’s bathrooms, with someone sending JK Rowling a video of India Willoughby and asking whether she really thought India should be using the men’s loo instead. Here’s how Rowling responded:

Oof, that’s got to sting. India Willoughby has since spoken to Byline TV and announced that she has reported JK Rowling to the police for misgendering her:

Is JK Rowling bothered? Doesn’t look like it. In fact she fired back with her own legal threats while continuing to ruthlessly misgender India Willoughby at the same time:

Oh dear. Seems to me that nothing will come of India Willoughby’s complaint, especially now that she’s been reminded of all the ammunition JK Rowling has on her. Then again, maybe she can now tell the police that JK Rowling has accused her of being a pervert and a kidnapper, in addition to misgendering her?

It’s just a shame that this is even an issue and that we can’t all be left alone to live our lives in peace. Although I guess it’s not as simple as that when the life you want to live involve changing laws, curriculums and bills that could allow bad actors to potentially endanger women and children, and the confusion it could cause in hospitals and the medical world where the reality of biological sex is crucial.

Have JK Rowling and India Willoughby ever considered sitting down for a friendly face-to-face chat about it all? Might be a good idea to get a mediator in there too.
