2) Libya

Poor old Libya has had a rubbish time of it. There was a revolution in 2011 and since then nothing’s really got sorted out. Hi-tech weaponry has fallen into the hands of civilian militiamen which means that ground to air missiles can be used on any aircraft they fancy knocking from the skies. A widespread crime wave shows no signs of backing down either.

Various groups have called for attacks on US citizens if seen in Libya. I guess I look pretty much the same as a Yank to the average Libyan, I don’t know if my accent would be enough to save my life.

In January 2014 there were a number of foreigners kidnapped and in November there was a spate of car bombs.

So if you’re not keen on being in the middle of a gun fight, consider staying elsewhere.
