5) South Sudan
South Sudan is the newest country in the world having won its independence from Sudan in 2011. Unfortunately for the South Sudanese being newest doesn’t necessarily make you the happiest country. The South Sudanese government has been locked in a gun fight with opposing factions since December 2013.
This perpetual fight is mostly situated in the paradoxically named Unity area, but its effects sprawl out across the whole country.
Gun fights, car jackings, cattle theft and more gun fights. That’s not the recipe for a holiday but it is a recipe for a standard day in South Sudan. Oh, and they’ve hardly got any safe water to drink in the entire country either, so if you’re going to risk it bring some Evian.
