In all honesty I had forgotten that there was a ‘Resident Evil’ TV series coming to Netflix this summer – wasn’t there a ‘Resident Evil’ movie reboot last year? – but this trailer does make it look like it’s going to be some sorta scary fun for us. Kinda.

The cast features Lance Reddick (Cedric Daniels from The Wire) and a whole bunch of other people that I’ll admit I haven’t heard of but who all seem to have healthy followings on Instagram. You can take a look at the trailer below and read the official synopsis underneath that:

The all-new series expansion brings the best of the Resident Evil DNA forward – bad-ass heroines, insane creatures (some new/some familiar), a battle for survival and of course, a deep mystery to unravel. Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) expands the directions with fresh storytelling, bone-chilling horror and an action-packed spectacle perfect for summer binging.

2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.

Yeah I don’t know about that – from the trailer and the synopsis, it sounds and looks like it’s going to be an absolute mess and the current track record of live action ‘Resident Evil’ adaptations doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence as they’re all completely awful. Maybe it’ll still be kind of fun though?

The insanely complicated synopsis definitely has me worried about this one, but the fact Lance Reddick has signed up and that we get to see some giant spiders, the Licker and a bunch of blood and gore and swearing has me kind of on the fence about it. I hope it’s good, but using ‘Theme From A Summer Place’ in the trailer might have destroyed the shallow feelings of anticipation I might have had for it.

Will wait for the reviews to come in before deciding whether to watch it or not. Advise you to do the same.

For more of the same, check out this Resident Evil 4 in real life video. It’s old but it’s a goodie.
