Former Harvard graduate and longtime donor Ken Griffin says he will no longer financially support the university because all Ivy League schools do nowadays is produce “whiny snowflakes”.

Griffin, the 55-year-old hedge fund billionaire who runs Citadel and Citadel Securities, told a conference in Miami: “Will America’s elite university get back to their roots of educating American children — young adults — to be the future leaders of our country or are they going to maintain being lost in the wilderness of microaggressions, a DEI agenda that seems to have no real endgame, and just being lost in the wilderness?”

Griffin said it was important for Harvard to “resume their role as educating young American men and women to be leaders, to be problem solvers, to take on difficult issues.” Until that happens, “I’m not interested in supporting the institution,” he said.

Well, fair play I guess. Harvard will probably be fine without his money because there’s so many rich and powerful people who donate to them anyway, but still, losing a donor who has already given you $500 million has got to sting. That’s just an absolutely obscene amount of money to donate to an institution which then lets you down politically or educationally, or whatever. They literally named one of their departments after this guy! So they obviously appreciate the massive cash injections he’s given them over the years.

Why would it take till 2024 for him to withdraw funding though? Haven’t the ‘whiny snowflakes’ been around since way before then? Makes you wonder whether he simply can’t afford to keep pumping that sort of money into Harvard.

Either way, it’s best for everyone if schools like Harvard do what they can to restore academic freedom, both conservative and liberal, without trying to push and encourage ideas that lead to the production of ‘whiny snowflakes’ or MAGA types (or whatever the political opposite of a whiny snowflake is). Come on academia, get it together!
