David Haye Is Suing ITV For £10 Million After ‘I’m A Celebrity’ Drama
David Haye is reportedly suing ITV for up to £10 million after claiming their deliberate editing on I’m A Celebrity turned him into the villain and made him look like a misogynistic, aggressive bully.
Following his time on the show, Haye is accused of…
- bullying Adam Thomas to the point the actor sought therapy after filming ended, claiming the boxer left him “broken”
- fat-shaming Gemma Collins
- ageist and sexist treatment of Beverley Callard
- making misogynistic comments about women, for example, saying pretty girls are “just idiots” and “ugly birds” have better personalities
Haye, 45, claims the selective editing has caused irreparable damage to his brand and cost him major deals, including talks with Netflix which stalled after his time on the show.
A source told The Sun: “David is absolutely gung-ho about all of this — he is incandescent with rage about how the whole series has been handled and feels he’s being made a scapegoat by ITV.
“He insists he is none of these and has suffered trolling.
“He can cite examples — such as the Gemma Collins ‘fat-shaming’ moment, which used clever editing and snide eye-rolls, etc to make his remark look damning.
“His lawyers will go through the series with a fine-toothed comb to find more.
“He is going for damages as a result of the ‘propaganda’ aired against him to recover lost earnings, which lawyers believe could total up to £10 million.
“David previously had talks with Netflix about a show, and these have halted, while other brand deals appear to have been paused.”
Well, it will be interesting to see if he has a case here. Obviously ITV and everyone other producer on the planet will selectively edit reality TV to create the narrative they want, but I’m not sure they’ve done anything illegal there, or at least anything that isn’t covered by the contract Haye will have signed.
Haye also put up a poll on Instagram asking people to vote on whether he behaved like a bully on the show or not. 77% voted ‘yes’ and 23% voted ‘no’, so that’s not ideal. If I were ITV, I wouldn’t be too concerned.
