In case you hadn’t heard, Syria launched a chemical attack on its own people last week, killing 70+ and injuring 550+, including children. Likely with the use of lethal toxic gas ‘Sarin’.

Upon hearing of the attack and, apparently, seeing gruesome images of the aftermath, Donald Trump launched 59 missiles at Syria last Friday.
While the US has been attacking terrorists (ISIS) in Syria since 2014, this was the first time they’ve purposefully attacked the Assad regime.
The problem here is that Putin backs Assad, and that’s where it gets awkward for the Russia/USA and Putin/Trump relationship.
Well this week, Putin has come out and said that he reckons there’s a conspiracy going on, and that the US is framing the Assad regime for the chemical attack:
President Mattarella (of Italy) and I discussed it, and I told him that this reminds me strongly of the events in 2003, when the US representatives demonstrated at the UN Security Council session the presumed chemical weapons found in Iraq.
We have reports from multiple sources that false flags like this one — and I cannot call it otherwise — are being prepared in other parts of Syria, including the southern suburbs of Damascus. They plan to plant some chemical there and accuse the Syrian government of an attack.
So he’s basically saying that the Americans are using chemical attacks on Syrian children in an attempt to make Assad look bad. Is that a possibility? Of course, but I’m not sure I believe it. Putin is objectively a ruthless guy and Assad has previous experience as a scumbag who murders his own people. Not sure they need the US to drive that point home.
Regardless, things are getting very tense indeed between Russia, Syria and the USA. Let’s hope the right decisions are made going into the coming weeks and that we don’t end up in an all-out world war.
