I know this may come as somewhat of a shock, but the relationship between the British dad and the Ukrainian refugee he abandoned his family for has ended after 4 months, following a massive argument during the West Yorkshire man’s 30th birthday celebrations.

Tony Garnett famously broke up with his partner of 10 years – and mum to his two kids – after they took in 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym as a refugee earlier this year, running off with her after 10 days. Tony told MailOnline:

“I am 100 per cent through with her. We are finished as a couple.

I left Lorna and my two children for her, and I made every extra effort I could to help her keep us together.

I worked so hard to make this relationship work. I knew that we would look like tw**s if we broke up because we have a media profile and all the attention that has been put on us on television and on the internet.”

Full marks for self-awareness there. It seems Sofiia isn’t taking the break-up too well though, and was arrested last Saturday after yelling “I love you Tony” outside his home and trying to kick his front door down. Tony had to call the police after she climbed the garden wall, and officers then found her hiding in nearby bushes. She was taken away for questioning and later released without charge.

Tony admits his relationship with Sofiia was a “mistake”, but says he’s contacted the Home Office and is trying to sort out a new home for her, so that’s nice. Can’t help but think Tony’s ex Lorna has the smuggest grin on her face right now though. I mean it’s not like anyone actually expected these two to live happily ever after, but four months? After all those public declarations of love for each other? After Tony became her full-time carer when she went partially blind? Oh well, at least they gave it the old college try.
