The issue of transgender athletes competing in sports against thosewho aren’t the same biological sex as them is one of the most loaded debates out there at the moment, so I’m not even going to try and break it down and give an opinion on it – instead Caitlyn Jenner herself is going to do that for me.

Caitlyn Jenner was speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored (of course) today when she decided to give her thoughts on the Lia Thomas fiasco. For those of you that don’t know, Thomas courted controversy earlier this month when she became the first transgender athlete to win a National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) first division swimming championship.

Here’s what Jenner had to say about it:

Lia Thomas is one of the toughest, one of the hardest, erm, one of the worst things that happened to the trans community because it’s such bad publicity.

I don’t want biological boys to compete against women and girls in sports branding it just not fair.

I’ve met so many wonderful trans people, doing wonderful things, living their life authentically.

I hope Lia Thomas — it’s over for her now because she’s out of college — and I just hope she has a wonderful life.

Being trans is not easy, I hope she enjoys the rest of her life and has a good life.

‘Such bad publicity’ is a funny way to describe the debate, but I guess Jenner is essentially right about that because pretty much everywhere you look people are trashing Lia Thomas’ decision to compete in swimming, even though she took part in a bunch of other races other than the one she won and didn’t win them. I’m pretty certain that the data showed that she didn’t even have an advantage over the cisgender women that she beat either. Make of that what you will.

For more of the same, check out when Lady Gaga brutally dissed Caitlyn Jenner at the Oscars. That was really funny.
