We have ourselves a candidate for worst burglar of 2022 after a woman broke into Robert DeNiro’s NYC home and began trying to steal multiple presents from under his Christmas tree in the early hours of Dec. 19.

Shanice Aviles, 30, was caught red-handed by DeNiro himself, and subsequently arrested on burglary charges. According to People, Shanice has 26 prior arrests for burglaries, so it’s nice to know you can rack up 20+ thefts in NYC and still roam free.

What’s really insane about this story though is that the article says the burglary attempt took place at 2:45 in the morning, which means 79-year-old DeNiro must have been fast asleep. Somehow, he still heard the burglar breaking in and sneaking around his house! How loud must you be as a burglar to wake up a 79-year-old man (who almost certainly has hearing difficulties) at quarter to 3 in the morning? No wonder she’s been busted 26 times! Even Santa Claus doesn’t make that much noise and he comes crashing down the chimney…

Let’s not forget that DeNiro lives in the middle of NYC too, which means he gets a fair bit of noise by his window. He manages to sleep through that every night, but was still woken up by the loudest burglar in the world. You would think she might’ve worked out how to keep the noise down after being arrested 26 times, but apparently not.

So now that burglary attempt #27 went pear-shaped, what’s next for Shanice Aviles? I’m guessing they’ll let her go free again because that’s just what they do, but maybe she’ll finally realise how useless she is at this whole burglary thing and try her hand at something new. Then again, when there are no consequences, why would she stop? Better DeNiro just ramp up his security instead. Although you’d think that was already sorted out since he pays $70,000 a month for the place. Thanks for reading.
