Is there a bigger troll in the world of football right now than Argentinian goalkeeper Emi Martinez? Despite conceding 4 goals to Kylian Mbappe during the World Cup final, Martinez can’t stop disrespecting the guy and rubbing his side’s championship win in the France star’s face.

First of all, as we all saw, he took his Golden Glove trophy and pretended to shag it in front of the French fans:

Which is fair enough. I’d probably pretend to shag a trophy too if I had made some ridiculous saves and just won the World Cup. Back in the dressing room though, Martinez called for a ‘moment of silence’ for Mbappe among his teammates:

Then yesterday, during a topless bus parade in Buenos Aires in front of millions of fans in the streets, Martinez unveiled a toy baby with Mbappe’s face on it, waving it around in front of everyone as they toured the city in celebration – in front of Mbapper’s PSG teammate Messi, no less!

So why is Emi Martinez being such a cxnt about things? Well, it could have something to do with comments Mbappe made back in May, when he told journalists that “South American teams have disadvantages because they don’t have the same level of competition as European teams.”

Martinez addressed those comments and all, saying about Mbappe:

“He doesn’t know enough about football. He never played in South America. When you don’t have this experience, it may be better not to talk about it. But it doesn’t matter. We are a great team, recognised as such.”

Well no wonder Martinez continues to torment Mbappe; he obviously took those comments to heart massively. It’s just a bit ridiculous seeing as Mbappe banged in 4 goals against him on the night, even if wasn’t enough for France to take home the gold. It’s too bad that Mbappe and Martinez won’t meet on the pitch at club level anytime soon, seeing as the latter plays for the hapless Aston Villa where, interestingly, he isn’t as effective between the posts. With any luck France and Argentina will clash again in 4 years at the next World Cup over in the States. No doubt Mbappe will be keen to get his revenge.
