‘John Wick’ is undoubtedly one of the biggest success stories in Hollywood over the last few years, as it’s almost unheard of for a movie franchise to start up out of nothing these days and become as successful as everyone’s favourite hitman now is.

Director David Leitch helmed John Wick alongside Chase Stahelski – although for some reason only Stahelski was credited – and has since gone on to head up ‘Deadpool 2’ and ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ but he’s now coming at us with a completely unique new movie called ‘Bullet Train’. The caper stars Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Zazie Beetz, Brian Tyree Henry, Michael Shannon, Logan Lerman and The Last Samurai’s Hiroyuki Sanada and revolves around a bunch of assassins on Japan’s famous train of the same name.

Here’s the synopsis and the trailer:

An original movie event, Bullet Train is a fun, delirious action-thriller from the director of Deadpool 2, David Leitch. Brad Pitt headlines an ensemble cast of eclectic, diverse assassins – all with connected yet conflicting objectives – set against the backdrop of a non-stop ride through modern-day Japan.

OK. I straight up thought that was going to be really good from reading about it, but the trailer makes it look really bad and way too ‘wacky’. None of the jokes were really that funny, the fact that it was set to the  soundtrack of ‘Staying Alive’ that started doing a Japanese version of itself halfway through and that it had this hyperstyilized futuristic look that actually looked more goofy than cool actually made me kind of hate it.

However, the action sequences looked good and Leitch has previous for being awesome at directing those, so that might be enough to save this movie, alongside the general absurdist nature of it. Still, every movie that features an old song updated and used in a wacky way tends to be awful – it’s like the kiss of death for me – so I haven’t got high hopes for this one. Find out in July I guess.
