British 4th Tier Men’s Team Destroys The US Women’s Soccer Team 12-0

I don’t think it’s too controversial to say that the skill gap between men and women’s football is quite substantial (not to mention the gap between US and UK football), but even still, I wouldn’t expect a League Two team to thrash the US women’s national team 12-0.

Sure enough, the US women’s soccer team was demolished by the men’s Wrexham AFC team in a 12-0 defeat last weekend. Seven of the 12 goals were scored by Wrexham in the first 20 minutes! Here’s a clip that just about sums the evening up:

Wrexham, a Wales-based team owned by American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is part of England’s fourth tier League Two. The women’s national team had only five shot attempts on the goal compared to Wrexham’s 39 chances at a goal.

This isn’t the first time the USWNT have lost to a male team, having been beaten 5-2 by FC Dallas’ U-15 boys in 2017. Naturally, the internet is now using these two defeats as an argument against trans inclusion in football/soccer, which women’s star Megan Rapinoe is famously “100 perfect supportive” of.

Back in 2022, she told Time Magazine:

“People do not know very much about it. We’re missing almost everything. Frankly, I think what a lot of people know is versions of the right’s talking points because they’re very loud. They’re very consistent, and they’re relentless.”

I don’t really want to get too political, but it’s a shame this conversation is even viewed as a right wing vs left wing thing. Shouldn’t we just be using our common sense? Especially after novelty games like this one.
