Right now, there’s a cost of living crisis making us all worry about the future, but the sun is finally out and the pandemic is sort of over, so I imagine most Britons were going to spend the summer getting pissed up and trying to forget about all their problems and what it could mean for their livelihoods.

Sadly though, it’s being reported that we might even be denied that after it was revealed that workers are set to go on strike at a major brewery if their pay demands are not met and this could lead to a shortage of beers all over the country. More than 200 people at the Budweiser Group’s Samlesbury site near Preston have decided to down tools for a few days in June after they were only offered a 3% increase in wages compared with a 9% rise in inflation.

Here’s what Stephen Boden, GMB Organiser, said about it:

This industrial action is a result of Budweiser brewing group’s management making a frankly insulting pay offer.

They are choosing to ignore workers and put profit before people with this derisory pay offer.

The last thing these workers want to do is jeopardise beer supplies just as the hot weather kicks in.

But they’ve been pushed into this by bosses essentially slashing their wages during a cost of living crisis. Do they really expect loyal workers to swallow a real terms pay cut?

Anyone fancying a pint Budweiser, Stella Artois, Becks, Boddingtons or Export Pale Ale strike could go thirsty this summer.

But it’s not too late for bosses to listen to workers and offer a fair deal.

Yeah to be honest I’m not a major fan of any of those beers so it might not affect me too much, but I know that there are a hell of a lot of people out there that won’t be too happy about this development. Hopefully the people in charge listen for once and don’t fuck up our beer supplies this summer. Please don’t let things get even worse for everyone out here, you know?

The Budweiser Group’s parent company AB inBev have already reported a 7.4% increase in profit in the first three months of the year too, so it doesn’t really sound like their demands are even that outrageous. Sadly though, you can see more and more of this stuff happening as the cost of living crisis and inflation spiral out of control. Going to be a tough few years. Better get pissed whilst we can.
