It would be wrong to celebrate anyone’s death, but I don’t think too many people will be saddened to hear the news that the notorious Brighton Cat Killer died on his 55th birthday, just 6 months into his prison sentence.

Security guard Steven Bouquet was receiving care for thyroid cancer while serving his sentence in HMP Elmley in Kent, and ended up catching Covid. Despite receiving antibiotics, oxygen and medication specifically to treat the virus, his condition “progressively deteriorated”, the inquest heard.

Bouquet was jailed in July 2021 for stabbing 16 cats in a series of attacks between October 2018 and June 2019, that resulted in 9 of them dying. He was eventually captured on CCTV set up by the owner of one of the cats he murdered.

Coroner Patricia Harding confirmed:

“Despite whatever measures, he was too weak to fight the infection and sadly he died on January 5 2022, on his 55th birthday.”

Sadly? Not sure many people would agree, but I guess even cat killers have people in their lives who love them. I suppose it’s not nice to think of anyone struggling to breathe and dying a long, drawn out, excruciatingly uncomfortable death where you’re probably aware the end is near.

Still, for the owners of his victims, I wouldn’t blame them for filing this under ‘good Covid news.’
