The piano at St Pancras International Station which was at the centre of a clash between pianist Brendan Kavanagh and a bunch of Chinese tourists has been sealed off after footage of the incident went viral.

Here’s the video in case you missed it (should start at 8:57 where the good stuff is):

The group of tourists, who were holding flags of the People’s Republic of China, demanded that Kavanagh stop filming because they didn’t want their faces in his video, even though the video had nothing to do with them and they essentially put themselves in it by complaining. At one point, one of the tourists yells at Kavanagh and tries to make out he’s some pervert trying to touch his female friend, which was a cheap and sneaky tactic that fortunately did not work.

Speaking today, Brendan Kavanagh said: “The station have cordoned off the piano and put two guards either side of the piano. You can’t make this stuff up.”

Bizarre. Imagine being a tourist going through London – the CCTV capital of the world – and being upset that you might appear in the background of a live-streamer’s video. The funniest part is that because they engaged with Brendan Kavanagh and made such a big deal over it, the video has now racked up millions of views and their faces have gone viral in front of the world. Talk about your all-time backfire!

A spokesperson for the station said: “Due to maintenance works being carried out in the main concourse of St. Pancras International Station, the Elton John piano is currently out of use.”

I guess we’ll have to take their word for it, although it is a bit strange that they’ve got two guards watching over the piano. Hopefully Brendan Kavanagh is back there banging out some tunes soon enough.
