Jurgen Klopp Starts Germany Coach Job By Threatening To Quit

Jurgen Klopp is back and he doesn’t give a fvck – kicking off his reign as Germany head coach by announcing that he will quit if the media ever harasses his family like they did to previous coaches.

Klopp, 59, signed a four year deal to replace Julian Nagelsmann following Germany’s shocking World Cup run in which they were knocked out by Paraguay in the last 32.

Klopp issued the following warning at his first press conference: “If you behave badly and don’t leave my family in peace then I’ll be gone, I’ll just turn away

“I know there are other countries where national team coaches are treated even worse.

“I’m not doing this job for myself, I’m doing it for you. I’m taking this job even though I’ve seen how you’ve treated Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel.

“I love this job but I am always ready to call it quits if need be.”

What a guy. Imagine introducing yourself at your new job by telling everyone that you don’t need the job, and are essentially doing them a favour by accepting it. Which is fair enough, really. Germany needs a guy like Klopp to sort them out and the guy is obviously loaded and accomplished enough already to retire in peace if he wants to.

Of course, abuse and harassment is inevitable on the internet, but let’s see if the German media heed Klopp’s warning. Good on him for taking a stand and setting his boundaries early. Imagine a world where the media didn’t hound and harass your family? That’s the world that Jurgen Klopp wants to live in.
