Keir Starmer Quits As PM And Cries On Steps Of Downing Street

An emotional Keir Starmer has confirmed he will be stepping down as Prime Minister less than two years after coming into power in a Labour landslide win.

This comes after weeks of pressure from his party (and other parties) and a series of blunders over the years, although he did have the balls to keep us out of Iran – got to keep him that.

Sir Keir initially vowed to keep fighting on as PM, but after a bunch of senior Cabinet resignations and the return to Parliament of arch nemesis Andy Burnham, the writing was on the wall.

In his speech outside Number 10, Starmer said: ‘The question my party is asking now is whether I am best placed to lead us into the general election.

‘I have heard the answer of my parliamenty party to that question. I accept that answer with good grace.

‘Every decision I have taken has been about putting the party I love first. That’s why I will resign as leader of the Labour Party.’

Labour governing’s body will now set out a timetable to replace Sir Keir, beginning on July 9, with a new leader in place before Parliament returns in September.

Honestly, history will probably be kinder to Keir Starmer than what the sentiment is now. Sure, he could have done better, but he’s nowhere near the worst PM this country has had, not even in recent memory. Even net migration fell to its lowest level since 2012 under Sir Keir, and that’s the stick that a lot of ‘patriot’ types like to beat him with. Did they even realise he did a better job on that front than his predecessors?

At the same time, he made huge mistakes with the Mandelson scandal, the digital ID proposals, and a bunch of other things, and ultimately, he’s been forced out of office. Let’s see who Labour line up to replace him. Would be pretty funny if Burnham loses out.
