GoPro Worn By Model During Fatal Bungee Jump Fall Was ‘Hidden’ After Her Death

Every day it seems there’s a new detail around the death of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas that makes the story even worse, and today it’s the belief that she was wearing a GoPro camera that may have been hidden after she died.

Maria, 21, was killed last week after being thrown off Skeleton Bridge and falling 130ft in Limeira, Brazil, without a safety rope attached.

Police are now searching for a missing GoPro, which they believe was attached to the model’s neck strap as she fell.

Bungee workers Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, and Vitor de Freitas Goncalves, 27, have all been arrested, and completely useless during questioning.

Three more suspects have now also been arrested, with police saying one is suspected of removing the GoPro and deleting evidence from it.

A witness named Rafael Goulart claims he saw an employee removing the GoPro as Maria lay dying.

He told EPTV: ‘The first scene I remember when I saw the girl on the ground was seeing one of the employees removing the GoPro camera from the neck strap of the body that was already on the ground, either worried about the equipment or wanting to hide evidence.’

São Paulo State authorities are now investigating possible ‘suppression of evidence… especially related to the disappearance of the image capture equipment used by the victim during the jump.’

Just awful, if true. Especially when you consider other witness statements that the bungee workers tried to flee and change clothes before the police arrived. They were responsible for killing this girl and their primary thought was how to escape arrest. So it’s not a stretch to assume they were also ‘switched on’ enough to remove Maria’s GoPro from her body and hide it.

Even without any additional evidence the GoPro could provide, I doubt any of these bungee workers have a prayer in court. Not only did they ‘forget’ to attach the safety rope to Maria’s harness, but they didn’t even have authorisation or legal regulation to conduct extreme sports at that bridge in the first place.

Skeleton Bridge is set to be demolished so that nothing like this ever happens again. Thoughts with Maria’s friends and family as the investigation continues.
