Woman Who Put Cat Into Wheelie Bin Still ‘Doesn’t Feel Forgiven’ 16 Years Later
Remember the infamous ‘Cat Bin Lady’ who put a cat into a wheelie bin in 2010?
Mary Bale, 61, from Coventry, went viral way back in 2010 after being caught on CCTV dropping a cat into a wheelie bin. Here’s a reminder:
A woman who dumped a cat in a wheelie bin 16 years ago now lives like a recluse due to online hate.

Mary Bale went viral after CCTV footage showed her doing it. This led to her being nicknamed “Cat bin lady” and a £250 fine. pic.twitter.com/cwEc3wN1uT
Bale, who was a 45-year-old bank worker at the time, first stroked the four-year-old tabby cat named Lola before grabbing her by the scruff of the neck and dumping her into the green rubbish bin, where the cat remained trapped for 15 hours.
She pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in October 2010, resulting in a £250 fine, over £1,100 in court costs, and a 5-year ban on owning animals.
That was nothing compared to the backlash she got online and in the streets, though. She ended up suffering anxiety and depression and resigned from her 27-year career at the bank.
Known ever since as the ‘Cat Bin Lady,’ she reportedly became a recluse in the district of Coventry where she still lives.

Her neigbour recently spoke to MailOnline: “She was vilified by people across the world. Most people have long forgotten it but not everyone and she doesn’t feel forgiven.
“She leads a very, very quiet life now and rarely speaks to anyone. I think she remains deeply embarrassed and thinks that’s all she will ever be known for.
“Obviously it was a weird thing for her to do but when learned that her father was dying at the time – he passed just a few months later – it was clear she was not in a good place at the time she did it. Those of us who know about her are broadly sympathetic.”
Listen, you can’t expect the internet to ever forget or forgive someone who did something awful, especially something like dumping a cat into a wheelie bin and leaving it there, which reveals something quite deep about a character. If you’re willing to do something so unnecessarily cruel and think you can get away with, why would anyone like or trust you?
Apparently she got news around the time that her dad was dying, but I don’t think that’s an excuse, do you? Unfortunately for Mary Bale her neighbours speaking to the press about it means the clip is once again doing the rounds. Unlucky, Mary!
