Moment British Couple Were Busted At Istanbul Airport Smuggling Two Suitcases Full Of Cannabis From Thailand

Footage has emerged of the moment a young British couple were arrested at Istanbul airport while collecting their suitcases… which were packed with 17 vacuumed bags containing 19.2kg of cannabis.

Holly Cooper and Taylor Johnson, both 20, were about to make their connecting flight back to London after flying into Istanbul from Bangkok, when this happened…

So close, yet so far. They couple are now being kept in Turkish jail ahead of their trial, which could take a year before it reaches court. Their families also allege that Turkish police beat up Taylor in his cell.

A family friend insisted to The Sun that they were ‘good kids’, saying: “Ok, they’ve done something stupid this time, but everyone makes mistakes.

“They’ve been recruited and groomed by bigger criminals and exploited by them. They are alone in a Turkish prison. It’s shocking and apparently Taylor has been beaten up. The families are in bits.”

A GoFundMe established by friends of Johnson appears to have been taken down.

An FCDO spokesperson said: “We are providing support to two British nationals detained in Turkey as well as their families, and are in touch with local authorities.”

With the amount of stories we blog every month about Britons being busted for international drug smuggling, it’s a wonder how so many are still dumb enough to risk it. Yeah, I know their families claim they’re good kids who were coerced and exploited, but it was their call at the end of the day.

Then again, I do wonder how many make it through undetected. After all, they can’t catch everybody. Still, the odds are probably not in your favour, especially when you look like the classic Essex/roadman couple who would try something like this.

Who knows? If they’d made it all the way back to London before being busted, they may have even got away with a slap on the wrist. Getting busted on a layover in Turkey though? That might actually be worse luck than being busted in Thailand.
