Thief Who Stole £2,000,000 Faberge Egg Swapped It For Drugs
A thief who didn’t realise he had stolen a Faberge egg worth £2,000,000 swapped it for drugs, and has now been jailed for two years.
Enzo Conticello, 29, swiped a Givenchy handbag from a woman who was stood in the smoking area of the Dog and Duck pub on Bateman Street in London on November 7, 2024.
Inside the £1,600 bag: an emerald-encrusted Faberge egg and Faberge watch belonging to the victim’s employers at the Craft Irish Whiskey Company, a £1,500 Apple laptop, Apple AirPods, a £350 store voucher, keys, three bank cards, £200 worth of make-up, a £150 Mulberry card holder, and £20 in cash.
Now I’m not saying this crackhead should have any idea how much a Faberge egg costs, but the fact it was emerald-encrusted probably should have given him some idea. Even without the eggs and watch, there was still thousands of pounds worth of valuables in that bag!

Focused solely on his next fix, Conticello swapped the bag and its contents for drugs that same day.
However, he first attempted to use the victim’s bank cards in a nearby shop within minutes of committing the crime, which is what linked him to the theft.
Conticello – also known as Hakin Boudjenoune – pleaded guilty to three charges of fraud by false representation and one count of theft, and was jailed this week for two years and three months.
Just one problem – detectives are still trying to recover the Faberge egg…

Insurers have paid out £106,700 to the drinks company for the loss, but the prosecutor said there are only seven Faberge sets – containing an egg, watch, cigars and humidor – in existence.
Prosecutor Julian Winship told the sentencing hearing: ‘On November 7, 2024, at just before 10pm, (Ms Dawson) went to the Dog and Duck pub in Soho.
‘She was outside the premises in the designated smoking area, she put her handbag on the ground in between her legs, and a few minutes later she noticed her handbag was no longer there.’
The court heard Ms Dawson had the Faberge items in her handbag after she had taken them for display at a work event earlier that evening.
Have to say – if I was carrying a bag with contents worth more than £2million then I don’t think I’d leave it on the floor between my legs. Or even take it to the pub, to be fair. Expensive lesson learned.
