Starmer Popularity Skyrockets Following Rift With Trump Over War In Iran
It turns out that standing up for British interests is actually a popular move, with Keir Starmer’s popularity given a considerable boost after he refused to support Trump’s strategy in the Iran war.
The Prime Minister’s personal approval rating increased by 26 points after he stood up to the US President, according to a JL Partners survey for the Independent.
Now, look – Sir Keir is still seen negatively overall at minus 14, but it’s still significantly better than before.

The disagreement between Trump and Starmer is the biggest clash the two have had during Trump’s second term. Starmer denied a U.S. request to use British military bases for initial offensive strikes on Iran, stating he does not believe in “regime change from the skies”.
Trump publicly criticised the decision, saying Starmer was “no Churchill” and describing the “Special Relationship” as “not what it was”.
Fair play to Starmer, though – he refuses to send British lads to die for Israel for no reason. Meanwhile American troops are heading out to the Middle East to prep for a potential ground invasion, in which many lives are sure to be lost in a long, drawn out war,, and for what? So Bibi Netanyahu can postpone his corruption charges? So Trump can cancel the midterms in November? So that we don’t bring up the Epstein files again?

OK, Starmer did eventually grant the U.S. permission to use British bases for the war, though he framed it as a shift in the nature of the conflict rather than a direct U-turn. As long as he doesn’t actually send Brits out there to fight a needless war, I think he’ll be on the right side of history.
Starmer winning the public over! Never thought I’d see the day. Although I’m not sure we’re quite at a point where he can call a snap election to prove it.
