Female Gamer & Her Boyfriend Jailed After He Helped Her Cheat In E-Sports Tournament

Huge scandal at the 33rd annual Southeast Asian (SEA) Games as Thai esports athlete Naphat “Tokyogurl” Warasin and her boyfriend Chaiyo “Cheerio” Kong have been jailed for cheating during the tournament.

During an Arena of Valor match against Vietnam in December 2025, officials noticed that the on-screen gameplay did not match Warasin’s hand movements.

Following an investigation, it turned out Warasin was screensharing her gameplay via Discord, allowing her boyfriend to remotely take over her account and play on her behalf.

Fast forward to March 2026, the Pathum Wan District Court sentenced both Warasin and Kong to six months in prison for violating Thailand’s Computer Crime Act and damaging the country’s reputation.

Due to their cooperation and confession, the sentences were reduced to three months and they were both ordered to pay a fine of 24,000 baht (approx. £540).

In addition, Warasin was expelled from the SEA Games, and the entire Thai women’s Arena of Valor team was forced to withdraw. Game publisher Garena also issued a lifetime ban to the couple.

Just goes to show what a big deal the esports industry is these days. When I first read this story I thought it was crazy that anyone could be jailed for cheating in a video game tournament, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. There’s actual money on the line. Massive sponsorship deals and contracts at stake. So when someone cheats at this ‘sport’, it’s messing with a lot of people’s money.

Worst of all though, this couple “jeopardised the credibility of the country of Thailand”, and as we all know, Thailand is not a country you want to mess about in. These two are actually lucky they got a fixed jail term and weren’t just thrown in prison and forgotten about.

Moral of the story – don’t cheat at video games, especially not in Thailand.
