While filming a broadcast near the Al-Qasmiya Bridge – an area close to a military installation – a missile struck less than ten metres behind Sweeney.
Fortunately, he instinctively dove to the ground just as the missile struck, narrowly escaping a direct hit.
Both Sweeney and his cameraman were taken to a hospital in Tyre to be treated for shrapnel wounds, specifically to Sweeney’s arm.
Rida alleged the strike was deliberate, stating the crew was wearing official press uniforms and was clearly identifiable as media. Sweeney later reported that an Israeli plane had fired upon their vehicle.
Just one day earlier, Sweeney had Tweeted that ‘targeting journalists is a war crime’…

24 hours later it appears that Israel attempted to take him out on live TV. Incredibe.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Israel killed journalists who were simply doing their jobs. Unfortunately they seem to act with complete impunity because they have the President of the United States in their pocket.
It seems like the situation in the Middle East is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.
