Rapper Ghetts Sentenced To 12 Years After Causing Student’s Death In Hit And Run
UK rapper Ghetts has been handed a 12-year sentence after causing the death of 20-year-old student Yubin Tamang in a hit-and-run collision in Ilford, London, in October 2025.
Ghetts was driving his BMW M5 at over 60mph in a 30mph zone when he struck Yubin Tamang as the student was crossing Redbridge Lane East. The impact was so severe that Tamang went flying 60 – 70 feet in the air. The CCTV footage is actually easy to find on X and so on, but it’s too brutal to share here.
Tamang, an only child from Nepal who was in the UK to study, suffered critical injuries and died in the hospital two days later.
Ghetts, 41, was drunk at the time and failed to stop at the scene. Police located his heavily damaged BMW near his home the next day and arrested him as he ‘played dumb.’
Ghetts, real name Justin Jude Clarke-Samuel, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, and today got off very lightly indeed with 12-year jail sentence at the Old Bailey.

Judge Mark Lucraft told the court: ‘A sentence before plea would have been one of 16 years imprisonment.
‘In my judgment, the aggravating features set out would take the sentence to the top of the identified range of sentence before the mitigating features I’ve identified then bring it down to the sentence that I’ve just indicated, taking into allowance your plea of guilty, a sentence of 12 years imprisonment.’
It will be less than 12 years, in fact – Ghetts will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being released on license for the remainder of it.
Ghetts had 12 previous convictions for 27 crimes, included robbery, aggravated vehicle taking, and various other driving offences.
Weeping in court, Tamang’s mother Sharmila Tamang said: ‘My son had come for studies to this place but because of somebody’s mistakes he has died at a very small age. Yubin was our only child.

‘My son had come for his studies to the UK saying the UK had the best degree in the world. But on his way back from his work this happened and he lost his life.’
How devastatingly sad is that? A mum’s only son gone because of a moronic drunk driver.
Ghetts had claimed that the reason he was speeding was because he thought he was being followed, but examination of CCTV footage found no evidence this was the case. He probably just made it up, anyway, The guy was drunk and couldn’t care less how fast or how dangerously he was driving. It says a lot about his character that he failed to stop or even report what happened.
Ghetts actually had a stellar 20+ year career as a rapper in the UK, so it beggars belief how he could be so careless and stupid in his 40s. Completely thrown his life away and killed a man in the process.
RIP Yubin Tamang.
