British Airways Drops Louis Theroux Podcast Sponsorship Over Bob Vylan Interview
British Airways has pulled its sponsorship of the Louis Theroux podcast following the interview with Bob Vylan in which the punk singer said he had ‘no regrets’ about leading the ‘death to the IDF’ chant at Glastonbury, adding that he would ‘do it again tomorrow and twice on Sundays.’
British Airways said that the content “breaches” its sponsorship policy, which is kind of crazy, given that Louis Theroux has interviewed actual Nazis on this show and didn’t lose any sponsorship or funding over that.
A BA spokesperson said: “Our sponsorship of the series has now been paused and the advert has been removed.
“We’re grateful that this was brought to our attention, as the content clearly breaches our sponsorship policy in relation to politically sensitive or controversial subject matters.
“We and our third-party media agency have processes in place to ensure these issues don’t occur, and we’re investigating how this happened.”
Seems that the powers-that-be are really determined to make an example out of Bob Vylan. The band has been dropped by their agent, dropped from every festival going, had their US visas revoked, and now podcast hosts are basically being told that if you interview Bob Vylan, you’re going to lose sponsorships.
Bob Vylan has since addressed the news on X:
Make no mistake, this is a scare tactic. I went on the podcast and as hard as the lobby groups and media tried, they couldn’t twist anything I said. So they have resorted to lobbying for Louis’ sponsorship to be pulled in an attempt to scare others out of giving me a platform. https://t.co/lxmsX0aZlt

They thought they were going to get a dumb angry punk ranting. Instead they got articulate and considered responses to each question with facts to back it up when needed. Their hope to further vilify me couldn’t run, so they target Louis to make an example for sitting with me. pic.twitter.com/EX2hOnhvoF

Despite all that, the band’s album, Humble as the Sun, re-entered the charts over the summer and went to number one in the UK Hip Hop and R&B album charts, and they’ve also announced their We Won’t Go Quietly 2025 UK tour. Although I guess they’ll be limited as to which venues they can play.
Wonder if he’ll get another ‘Death to the IDF’ chant going at these shows?
As he told Louis on the podcast: “Oh yeah. I’m not regretful of it. I’d do it again tomorrow, twice on Sundays.
“I’m not regretful of it at all, like the subsequent backlash that I’ve faced. It’s minimal.
“It’s minimal compared to what people in Palestine are going through.
“If that can be my contribution and if I can have my Palestinian friends and people that I meet from Palestine, that have had to flee, that have lost members in double digits of their family and they can say, yo, your chant, I love it. Or it gave me a breath of fresh air or whatever.”
Louis Theroux has been contacted for comment.
