We all remember how bad the backlash to the Blue Origin space mission was earlier this year. Jeff Bezos sent an all-female crew of astronauts – including Katy Perry, Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez – to space for 11 minutes in what proved to be a complete waste of time and money, with Katy Perry in particular catching a lot of flak for acting like she was really cool to be a part of it.
Well, apparently the backlash against Katy Perry was even greater than we had imagined, because even her husband Orlando Bloom ripped into her about it before their recent break-up. According to a ‘source‘ in Perry’s camp, she received little to no support from Bloom who blasted the ’embarrassing’ debacle during an explosive row.
The source told MailOnline: ‘He told her the whole thing looked ridiculous. He said it was cringeworthy. Embarrassing. This was in the middle of a fight, and it hurt her feelings.’
‘Of course she was hurt. Imagine going to space — motherf***ing space — and your partner isn’t impressed. She hoped he’d be more supportive.’
Now obviously we’ve all said things to a significant other in the heat of the moment that we wished we hadn’t. You’re in the middle of an argument, your blood pressure’s spiking, and you take it a step too far and say something that really cuts your partner deep. It’s something that almost certainly would have been better left unsaid, and you can never take it back, and it will be a stain on your marriage/relationship for the rest of time.

That being said, I think it’s perfectly OK and acceptable for Orlando Bloom to tell Katy Perry that her space mission was embarrassing and idiotic. I’m not even sure you can call that an insult or say it’s something he should apologise for. He’s just citing an opinion shared with 99.9% of the planet!
Katy Perry and the rest of the crew thought they were part of a historic, empowering moment for women, but people were actually just annoyed by these overly privileged multi-millionaires going on an expensive and pointless trip to space and acting like heroes for it, when there’s so much wealth inequality in the world. Acting like they colonised Mars when they were literally just floating around in space for 11 minutes.
And so, it’s no surprise that Katy Perry’s space mission was the final straw in her marriage with Orlando Bloom. They’ve been on and off for years already, and I’m sure there’s 10,000 reason why they’ve grown apart already, but the Blue Origin space mission and the subsequent fallout was all the man needed to see to finally push him over the edge.
Besides, could you imagine your significant other going to space and holding it over your head for the rest of your life, making sure to bring it up at every opportunity? “Oh yeah? Well, I’VE been to space.” How infuriating! If she really wanted to impress him, maybe she could have stayed there…
P.S. Wonder how the guy who got catfished by her all those years ago feels about this?
