I think it’s fair to say that Margaret Thatcher is largely disliked by a large cross section of this country – mainly those in the north – so I don’t think it’s really that surprising that a new statue of her that has recently been erected has been vandalised.

The statue was unveiled two weeks ago in Grantham, Lincolnshire and this is the second time that it’s been attacked even though it’s only been out in the open for a very short time. A guy threw eggs at it when it was revealed to the city on May 15th.

Anyway, the paint was thrown over the statue on Saturday night and police are looking for any leads on the incident, saying the following:

Just before 11.15pm yesterday we received reports of a person shown on CCTV acting suspiciously near the site.

Officers attended and found graffiti had been spray painted onto the barriers surrounding the statue, no damage was thought to have been caused to the statue itself.

This is being treated as criminal damage and an enquiry is ongoing.

Uh oh. Bet whoever got wasted on Saturday night and decided to spraypaint the statue is regretting it now, although I dare say there’s a large section of the city that probably won’t dob on whoever it was because they hate Margaret Thatcher as well. Could end up being a real mystery.

For more of the same, check out this statue of two people getting a selfie together. Why the hell has anyone bothered to create that?
