An investigation has been launched into the altercation between a French staff member and British passenger during a 13-hour flight delay at Nice airport on Saturday.

While one witness claims the punch was unprovoked, you can see from the video that the man pushes his hand into the airport worker’s face before the punch was thrown:

Airport management stated:

Whatever the circumstances, the airport management firmly condemns this incident and has called for the immediate suspension of this staff member.

Other witness accounts claim that the victim attempted to take a picture of the worker, who was allegedly “smiling” about the delay. This provoked the staff member, who knocked the phone out of the passenger’s hand, which then led to the face push and the finishing punch. It certainly looks that way in the video.

An easyJet spokesman said:

EasyJet is very concerned to see this picture and can confirm the person in the photo is not an easyJet member of staff and they do not work for easyJet’s ground handling agents in Nice.

We are urgently taking this up with Nice Airport and their special assistance provider Samsic who we understand the person photographed works for.

Meanwhile a Nice Airport spokesman has said that the incident is now under investigation. What a palaver – I guess there’s nothing like a 13-hour delay to push people over the edge.

At least that airline worker couldn’t pack a punch like this guy, because otherwise he’d be in even bigger trouble than he is now.
