Dave Mirra is pretty much the Tony Hawk of the BMX world – a 24 time X Games medallist with his own video game named after him – and that’s why this news is so shocking.

Mirra has been found dead via a self inflicted gunshot wound in his truck in his city of residence Greenville. Apparently he was visiting friends in the area before he was found on the 200 block of Pinewood Road. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

Gutting. It would be wrong to speculate at this point about what prompted him to take his own life, but whatever the reason it’s obviously a tragedy. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this time. RIP.
