Wow. I thought earlier today that Jake Paul getting involved with the Will Smith/Chris Rock slap incident was perhaps the most 2022 thing that could happen, but I obviously forgot about the slap being offered out as an NFT for an astronomical amount of money. What an absolute idiot I am.

OpenSea is one of the world’s biggest NFT marketplaces and is already offering 1999 JPEGs of the slap that also include a variety of different meme overlays. The most expensive ones in what is being termed the ‘Will Smith Slap Dao’ collection are currently being sold as NFTs for 69 ETH, which at the moment is close to £180,000 ($235, 427). What a bargain!

However, if you don’t have that much money or aren’t that much of a moron, then you can purchase your own JPEG of the slap for 0.003 ETH – that’s around £8. I would still argue that you’re a moron for buying a JPEG of something that’s freely available on the internet for any price, but that’s a whole different story I suppose.

As you can see above, at the time of writing 721 people have already purchased a JPEG or an NFT, so you can imagine that the creator of the collection is rolling in it right now – apparently he’s already made $45,000 from it. Of course, there’s very little evidence that whoever that is has any ownership over the JPEGs or NFTs that they’re selling to you, so maybe proceed with caution before you go all the way in on this one. Good luck!

For more of the same, check out Ricky Gervais had to say about the incident. Couldn’t help himself could he?
