This Quan Neng Shen cult caused a right ruckus back in December 2012. They were convinced that the world was going to end (embarrassing) and were urging followers to slay the “red dragon” i.e. the communist regime. The cult was declared illegal and around 1,300 followers were arrested and imprisoned.

Quan Neng Shen was started in 2012 by Zhao Weishan who has since fled to the US. Weishan continues to run the cult from the US and according to their website, they have millions of members around the world. Quan Neng Shen, or Eastern Lightning as they’re also known, believe Jesus has already returned from heaven in the form of a Chinese woman in a small rural Chinese village.

The cult was initially flagged up by Christian groups in China for using torture and kidnap (among other dubious methods) to increase their following. In 1998 cult members set off a series of riots in Hetang county that lasted 12 days. They reportedly cut off the ears and broke the limbs of their victims. In 2002 they kidnapped 34 of the lead members of the China Gospel Fellowship and held them for two whole months.

In August 2013 the cult are alleged to have plucked out the eyes of a boy because his family were trying to leave the cult. These are not nice people by all accounts.

Cult McDonalds Murder - murderer

During an interview with one of the lead McDonald’s attackers (pictured above) on a Chinese TV network, he said that the woman who was murdered had refused to give out a phone number and was therefore dubbed a “devil”. The lead attacker also boasted that he’d stamped on her head for three minutes and “he felt great”.

The video below is filmed by someone in the restaurant at the time. It’s jerky and steers clear of the action most of the time but it gives you a sense of the number of people standing around as this was all kicking off. It is SFW but because you know what’s going on it’s still pretty disturbing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIiiweA9–E
