The Black Creator Who Took Time To Explain Tourette’s To People Has Been Bullied Off Social Media
The articulate young lady who took the time to explain Tourette’s to people following the N-word controversy at the BAFTAs has been bullied off social media.
TikToker sh4ysgrwm, who herself suffers from Tourette’s, is accused of “putting her disability over being black” and not standing in solidarity with her black community.
Shay put out this statement on her TikTok page earlier:
Poor girl. How anyone can watch her videos and not feel anything but respect and admiration for her? There’s literally no better authority on the John Davidson drama than a black person with Tourette’s, and yet people want to tear this girl down because she defended a disabled man who has the same condition as her.
I guess if there’s one good thing about this whole situation, it’s that it’s exposed how many people need to be educated about Tourette’s. Although it seems you can’t educate people who don’t want to be educated.
Here are Shay’s videos in case you missed them:
@sh4ysgrwm it’s an unfortunate situation all around. But the ableism is unacceptable. Having these kinds of tics does not mean that we actively have it in our vocabulary. #baftas #tourettesawareness #foryoupagе #fyp ♬ original sound – shay. 🤍
@sh4ysgrwm I genuinely hope this situation subsides soon. It’s a very unfortunate thing to occur, but AGAIN, we must be logical. #baftas #tourettesawareness #foryoupagе #fyp ♬ original sound – shay. 🤍
Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan is ‘repulsed’ by the situation as his parents were left in tears…
