Female Irish Player Scores Goal Of The Season Contender

Stephanie ROche

I never thought I would write a headline anything like that one up there, but this goal really does justify it.

I’ll admit I never thought I’d type a headline like that but when I saw this goal that Irish female footballer Stephanie Roche scored over the weekend I had to eat my words because it’s just spectacular.

The game was between Stephanie’s team Peamount United and Wexford Youths and the goal might even be better than some of the ones that Arsenal were banging in over the weekend. She receives a cross from the right with her back to goal on the edge of the area, flicks the ball up once without letting it touch the ground, then flicks it up again and turns and hammers an unstoppable volley into the back of the net. It’s the kind of goal that Matt Le Tissier might have scored in his prime.
