Squirrels Are ‘Vaping’ E-Cigarettes In South London After Mistaking Fruity Aromas For Food
You know the world is in a mess when even the squirrels need a smoke break; here’s some footage going viral this week of squirrels vaping discarded e-cigarettes in Brixton, south London:

The footage has prompted warnings from animal welfare experts who say it serves as a “stark reminder” of the dangers posed by litter, as vapes contain toxic substances like nicotine, lithium batteries and microplastics.
Wildlife experts explain that the squirrels are not (necessarily) seeking a nicotine hit; rather, they are attracted to the strong fruity aromas of discarded e-cigarettes, which they mistake for food sources like berries.
Similar incidents have been documented elsewhere, including a viral video of a squirrel in Philadelphia gnawing on a vape and reports of a bird in New Zealand dying after swallowing one. And who can forget that orangutan in Russia…

As amusing as it might be to see animals like squirrels hitting vapes, it’s best we get our act together and stop discarding these things in public before they get too comfortable and start obnoxiously blowing the excess smoke into people’s faces. Clean up after yourselves, humans!
