I’m not sure when the traditional Spring Break tradition over in the United States started but clearly it’s been going on since at least the 1980s judging by this photo set taken by photographer Keith McManus. He travelled to Daytona Beach for Spring Break every year from 1982 to 1993 in order to document what was going down.

Keith has recently published a book called ‘Rite Of Passage’ featuring all his photographs from that time period, but here are some of the best ones. It looks like it was a lot of fun back then – at least way more fun than Spring Breakers and the kind of off the charts debauchery that is now associated with it every year.

Depends on your definition of fun though I guess.
