Sky News Presenter Under Fire For Mispronouncing Name Of Leicester Stabbing Victim
A Sky News presenter is catching flak online after mispronouncing the name of Khaleed Oladipo, a 20-year-old student who was fatally stabbed in Leicester city centre on February 3 2026.
During a breaking news update, presenter Jayne Secker repeatedly mispronounced his surname as “Ola-paedo” instead of Oladipo.
Sky News have taken down the clip following the backlash, but this guy made a copy:
Not ideal really. Imagine being stabbed to death and becoming a national news story, only for the mainstream media to call you “Ola-paedo” in front of millions of people.
In fairness to the presenter, it was a breaking news item and she may not have time to rehearse the name or ask how it’s properly pronounced, but is it really that difficult? I’m not sure why she keeps swapping round the ‘d’ and the ‘p’ unless she’s dyslexic, which surely can’t be the case when you’re a newsreader.
At the end of the day, it was a (repeated) mistake so maybe people need to chill out a bit. Although ironically, Sky News have their own Oladipo on the roster – a sports journalist who frequently appears on Sky Sports.
An 18-year-old man named Harper Dennis has been charged with the murder of Khaleed Oladipo. Dennis, of West Drayton, London, is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
